ShowPlace Icon to Premiere “An Affirmative Act”

ShowPlace Theatres announces an exclusive run of their newest feature film, An Affirmative Act, at Kerasotes ShowPlace ICON Theatre beginning April 1, 2011. An Affirmative Act is the first-ever courtroom drama about the legalization of gay marriage. The premise of the film is unique – a lesbian couple is charged with fraud for marrying under the false pretenses of being a heterosexual couple. They did so in order to adopt their child and obtain equal benefits and rights. Defended by a charismatic heterosexual attorney, but fought by a governor seeking to protect his anti-gay marriage bill, a massive media-covered courtroom battle ensues. The film stars multiple Academy Award and Emmy winners and nominees and was written and produced by veteran producer and best-selling author Ken Del Vecchio. The all-star cast features Blanche Baker, (Emmy winner; Sixteen Candles), Charles Durning (2-time Academy Award/4-time Golden Globe/9-time Emmy winner and nominee), Justin Deas (6-time Emmy winner), and Eric Etebari (Witchblade; The Lincoln Lawyer). A legal thriller filled with twists and mystery from beginning to end, An Affirmative Act has been described by Echelon Magazine as “a riveting courtroom drama guaranteed to inflame the passions of the masses”. “I’m thrilled to have created a movie that elicits such a strong response on a topic that is so important in our country right now,” says Ken Del Vecchio, writer and producer of more than 15 star-filled feature films. “The law, the courtroom and politics are central to this film. But it’s the personal struggle to obtain equality that is at its heart. Today, we need to bring attention to this issue so that justice is ultimately served.”
