Chevy Chase Country Club Ballroom Dancing

Chevy Chase Country Club continues their monthly ballroom dance classes with the third dance of the season to be held in the historic Grand Ballroom: the Fox Trot.  Originated by vaudeville actor Harry Fox in the United States around 1914, the Fox Trot became tremendously popular through the 1940s.  Initially danced to ragtime music, the varied styles including the Slowfox and Quickstep are now typically accompanied by big band music.

The event will feature live music by the 10-piece Dick Elliot Orchestra and instructional dance lessons by Chicago legends Bob and Penny Urbon, followed by three hours of open dancing.  For those who need a little liquid courage, a cash bar is available (prices range from $3 – $10).

The majestic Chevy Chase Country Club Grand Ballroom maintains its original integrity from the 1920s, and its 5,000-square-foot hardwood dance floor, stage area and state-of-the-art sound and lighting system provide the perfect setting for ballroom dancing.  The Abbey, with its vaulted ceiling and vintage horseshoe-shaped bar, provides a cash bar and is a great spot for gathering and socializing over cocktails in between dances.
