Maxine Trend Report: Rose Gold Color

This summer, Maxine colorist Leslie Shores is all about Rose Gold – the color is both warm and fresh, classic yet unexpected.  It looks as gorgeous on that new chunky watch as it does with dewy, summer makeup—and now it’s ready to grace the locks of lucky Chicagoans.

“It’s been a hot trend in jewelry for a while,” says Leslie, “And it’s definitely becoming a trend in hair color as well.”  After spotting rose gold all-over color and highlights on the runway last fall and this spring (and trying it out for herself), Leslie was hooked.

How to Get It
So, how does one achieve this honey-meets-strawberry tone?  “Ask your colorist to spice up your color by alternating a golden blonde with a light strawberry red highlight,” says Leslie.  And, of course, the best way to do that is with balayage.  “The look will be way more natural and now.”  “If you’re ready to go all the way, go with a rose gold base color and add in some blonde balayage to make your new color really shimmer.”

The Perfect Product

Texas de Brazil Silver Oak Cellars Wine Dinner in Chicago

Texas de Brazil’s Chicago location announces an evening of fine dining and wine tasting in partnership with Silver Oak Cellars of Napa Valley.  The evening will feature 3-courses of items from Texas de Brazil’s signature 50-item salad area and seasoned, flame-grilled cuts of beef, lamb, pork, chicken and sausage, and decadent desserts paired perfectly with select wines from Silver Oak Cellars of Napa Valley.

The Pony CMT Awards Viewing Party

The Pony in Lakeview will host a viewing party for the 2011 Country Music Television Awards on Wednesday, June 8 at 7:00 PM.  The festivities will include Free Hillbilly Bingo with a chance to win Rascal Flatts concert tickets and other prizes.  There will also be a “Best Belt Buckle Contest” with a $100 Prize.  Specials will include 16 ounce Coors Light Cans ($3), Jim Beam ($4), Red Stag ($4) and half-off Burgers and Wings.  Guests will be able to view the award show on an HD Projector downstairs, overhead plasma TVs and at tables that feature an individual flat-screen TV for viewing.

Tribute Announces Executive Chef Lawrence Letrero

Tribute is pleased to announce Lawrence Letrero as Executive Chef.  Opening in June 2011, Tribute will be a classic American restaurant with a modern culinary edge in the South Loop.  The menu at Tribute will be designed to appeal to both the casual diner as well as the sophisticated, discerning foodie.  Menu item prices will be balanced favoring low to moderate pricing, with daily specials that include some higher priced items.  The flavorful breakfast, lunch and dinner menus will use local and sustainable products that support Midwestern farms and suppliers for both food and beverages whenever possible.

Originally from Windsor Ontario Canada, a long love of cooking at home, circumstance, and a dare, brought Lawrence Letrero to Kendall College’s Culinary Program.  Upon graduation, Lawrence joined the opening team at Perennial Restaurant in Chicago’s Lincoln Park under Chef Ryan Poli.  Moving quickly from garde manger to lead cook, Lawrence learned the importance of proper technique, respect for product, and the attention to detail needed to run a successful kitchen.  After a stage at Per Se Restaurant (New York, NY), Lawrence moved on to become the opening Sous Chef at Karyn’s On Green restaurant, Chicago’s first all vegan fine dining establishment.  Promoted to Chef De Cuisine, Lawrence loved the challenge of executing the quality of food he is accustomed to without the assistance of any animal product.  His time at Karyn’s allowed him to further develop a better understanding of produce and its beauty.  Lawrence joins the team at Tribute Restaurant as Executive Chef.  “I always say I take food seriously, but I don’t take myself too seriously.  At Tribute, we are doing focused food, but it’s fun and playful at the same time”, says Letrero.

Cityscape Bar Hosts “Brew with a View” Sampling in June

This June, Cityscape Bar will host their third monthly “Brew with a View” beer sampling event on Thursday, June 9.  This ongoing event will be held on the second Thursday of every month.

Guests are invited to sample an array of beers while enjoying stunning panoramic views of downtown’s River North.  All attendees of “Brew with a View” will receive a buy-one-get-one-half-off discount coupon for dinner in ItaliAsia Restaurant after the event or on a future night.  In addition, they can enter to win a $100.00 gift certificate to ItaliAsia.

Hosted by The Boston Beer Company, the event will highlight several beers from the Imperial Series Samuel Adams line including: Wee Heavy, Imperial Stout, Imperial White and Double Bock.  Patrons can indulge in an assortment of small bites including Hot Wings and Grilled Fresh Veggies with Aged Balsamic.

Maxine Introduces New Staff

Maxine Salon celebrates three new stylists to enhance their already renowned team.  Colorist John Blue, stylist Reese Travis, and stylist Aaron David, all formerly of TRIO Salon, are now a part of the Maxine team.  “The talent these three bring is a given,” says Maxine, “We welcome them with open arms because we know that their philosophy is client-centered—that’s exactly how we operate.”

John Blue
Blue lives on his clients’ energy.  So, the former ashy-brunette now screaming about the golden locks she never thought she’d have?  That’s like a double shot of espresso for Blue.
Rapper by Night: Outside the salon, Blue becomes Johnny Dangerous, but he knows how to share the spotlight: “I like to give my clients that feeling of being a celebrity themselves.”
Blue on Gray:  “When it comes to gray hair, I’m a huge proponent of keeping things light and soft,” says Blue. Too often colorists will go toward darker tones, which aren’t always flattering to the client’s skin.
The Blue-and-Reese Effect: What makes their collaborations so fab? Reese knows how to add layers and fine cutting to really showcase the color (and vice versa).

Reese Travis
Engaging and altogether delightful, stylist Reese Travis brings a creativity and style to his work that clients love.  Throw in a dedication to the latest techniques and you have a perfect combination.
Product Overload:  The #1 mistake Reese sees is too much product: “Start with a good foundation, get most of the moisture out, then add the right amount of the right product.”
Updos Galore:  When it comes to the art of the updo, Reese is a veritable sculptor. From soft/ cascading to sleek/architectural, the result is always a masterpiece, in that flashing-lights-and-hushed-crowd kind of way.
The Mane Event:  Growing up in Iowa, Reese was somewhat at a loss for willing hair models, so he often settled for braiding manes and tails. Adorable, right?

Aaron David
The only thing better than a bombshell blowout that last for days? A bombshell blowout you can recreate at home. (In which case, Aaron’s polished styles are just for you!)
Sleepless in Chicago:  Aaron takes the term detail-oriented to a new level. “Sometimes I can be a little obsessive about my work,” laughs Aaron, “If a cut doesn’t meet a certain standard, I lose sleep.”
People Watching:  Aaron’s inspiration?  “People walking down the street—their clothes, their hair. I take little bits of the places I go and people I meet, and I make it my own.”
Wrench to Shears:  Unlike his two coworkers, Aaron didn’t start out cutting or coloring—he started as an auto technician. After a few years under the hood, he decided it was time for a creative change (and boy, his clients are glad he did!).

Go Roma Gluten Free Menu Additions

Go Roma’s new spring menu features Gluten Free additions.  Signature items such as their savory Tomato Basil Soup, Pear and Walnut Salad, Marinara and Country Style Sauce are now gluten free.  A gluten free penne is also now available on the menu along with six gluten free sauce options.  Gluten free menu items are denoted with a GF. 

Go Roma’s menu also features a unique pasta section that allows diners to combine their favorite pasta shape with the sauce of their choice in the size that suits their appetite.   Pasta choices now include a gluten free penne, along with multi-grain corkscrew, rigatoni, spaghetti, four-cheese ravioli among others.  Gluten free sauce options include Marinara, Alfredo, Pomodoro, Vegetable Primavera, Country Style, and Garlic Shrimp among other savory choices.

Pizza is personal at Go Roma: diners are invited to choose from Go Roma’s favorite artisan recipes featured on the menu, or create their own signature combinations.  As always, Go Roma’s pizzas are hand-stretched and made to order with either Classic or Wheat crust.  Pizzas start at just $6.49.
